In the natural world, the path to fulfilment of an organism’s potential often involves the disruption of what was there before. A seed cannot grow without cracking open. A caterpillar cannot become a butterfly without first turning into the cellular ‘soup’ that is a chrysalis.
As Cynthia Occelli wrote,
“For a seed to achieve its greatest expression, it must come completely undone. The shell cracks, its insides come out and everything changes. To someone who doesn’t understand growth, it would look like complete destruction”
In this time of churning we can find ourselves under stress, unable to achieve the things we want to. We feel cracked open like a seed churned up like the inside of a chrysalis.
The solution is to prioritise: to find out what really matters to us, choose it, and focus on that. Then we can let the rest go because it really doesn’t matter.
